Quickstart

Get up and running with OBI's MCP server in 5 minutes.

Prerequisites

• Claude Desktop installed
• An OBI account at app.heyobi.com
• At least one property set up in OBI

Step 1: Configure Claude Desktop

Open your Claude Desktop configuration file:

open ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

notepad %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Add the OBI MCP server:

Save the file and restart Claude Desktop.

Step 2: Authenticate

In Claude Desktop, try your first query:

"What properties do I have in OBI?"

Claude will prompt you to authenticate. Click the link, sign in to your OBI account, and authorize access.

Step 3: Start Using OBI

Once authenticated, you can interact with your property data naturally:

List Your Properties

"Show me my OBI properties"

You have 2 properties:
1. Main House - 123 Oak Street, Austin, TX
2. Lake Cabin - 456 Lakeview Dr, Marble Falls, TX

Search Your Inventory

"What electronics do I have in the living room?"

Found 5 electronics in the Living Room:

- Sonos Arc Soundbar - $899

Tips

• Be specific - "Samsung TV in the living room" works better than "my TV"
• Use natural language - Ask questions like you would to a helpful assistant
• Try follow-ups - Claude remembers context within a conversation
• Attach photos - Claude can use photos to identify and add items

Troubleshooting

"I don't have access to OBI"

Make sure you've:

1. Added the server configuration correctly
2. Restarted Claude Desktop
3. Authenticated when prompted

"No properties found"

You need at least one property in OBI. Visit app.heyobi.com to create one.

"Tool calls are failing"

Check your internet connection and try re-authenticating by asking Claude to list your properties again.
